A Message from our President and CEO

Since announcing our Energy 2030 framework in November 2015, we have moved forward a number of initiatives and projects to become a utility of the future.

Jeff Keebler

Under Energy 2030, MGE committed to reducing carbon emissions 40% by 2030, a target consistent with the Paris Agreement on climate change. Beyond 2030, we are committed to reducing carbon emissions at least 80% by 2050. And if we can go further faster by working together with our customers, we will.

Deep Decarbonization

Our commitments align with the goals of the U.S. Mid-Century Strategy (MCS) for Deep Decarbonization. The MCS is the U.S. strategy for meeting the goals of the Paris Agreement to limit global warming to two degrees Celsius. MGE's goals are consistent with the U.S. emissions targets and the 2-degree scenario.

MGE continues to take actions to grow our renewable energy sources. For example:

In addition, we are helping to transform transportation in the Madison area by advancing electric vehicles (EVs). The electrification of transportation is recognized nationally as a key strategy for reducing carbon emissions. We have partnered with the City of Madison Metro Transit in support of the City's goal to electrify 50% of its bus fleet by 2035. MGE has committed to providing financial and in-kind support and expertise.

We also partner with our residential customers through our EV home charging program, Charge@Home, which is a turnkey charging option for EV drivers. MGE owns, installs and maintains the units, which charge EVs up to six times faster than a standard electrical outlet.

And, we continue to explore new technology-based programs to help our customers manage their energy use. For example, we are working with several hundred residential electric customers who enrolled in our Smart Thermostat Demand Response program to reduce their use during periods of high energy use. This pilot program provides us research into how we may use smart technologies to better manage the grid during peak demand.

We thank you for your investment, and we invite you to learn more about our energy future at our website dedicated to Energy 2030, energy2030together.com.
