Watch: Morey Field Solar Construction

Construction of Madison Gas and Electric's (MGE) 5-megawatt solar project, Morey Field Solar, at Middleton Municipal Airport is nearly complete. The solar module and tracking system installations were completed in June.

The project expands the utility's community solar program, Shared Solar, which is an optional program for residential and small business electric customers who are interested in powering their home or business with locally generated solar energy. Shared Solar is an easy and affordable option to go solar with minimal up-front cost.

Renewable Energy Rider

The Morey Field Solar array also will serve the City of Middleton and the Middleton-Cross Plains Area School District through separate Renewable Energy Rider agreements. Under a Renewable Energy Rider agreement, MGE partners with a large energy user on a customized renewable energy solution to meet that customer's specific energy needs. The array is expected to begin generating electricity later this summer.

Targeting net-zero carbon electricity by 2050

MGE is working to achieve a more sustainable energy future using cost-effective renewable generation technologies. The Renewable Energy Rider and Shared Solar programs help to reduce MGE's carbon emissions while providing customers the option to purchase renewable energy to meet their energy needs and sustainability goals.
