MGE Named Green Master for Fifth Straight Year
Our utility subsidiary, Madison Gas and Electric (MGE), has attained the highest distinction possible in a statewide sustainability program for the fifth consecutive year. The Wisconsin Sustainable Business Council announced MGE is being recognized as a 2018 Green Master during the Council's annual conference held this year in Madison.
MGE hosted an exhibit for conference attendees to offer information about the utility's programs for businesses to enhance their sustainability efforts. Featured programs included:
- MGE's Renewable Energy Rider for large energy users. In October, the company announced plans for a large-scale solar array in partnership with Dane County under the Rider.
- The planned expansion of the company's successful Shared Solar program. The expansion would include another solar installation for the community solar program.
- MGE's renewable energy program, Green Power Tomorrow. The voluntary program gives residential and business customers the opportunity to power their home or business with clean energy.
- Workplace charging. MGE partners with employers to help design and implement workplace charging programs for employees.
Voluntary program through Wisconsin Sustainable Business Council
The 2018 Wisconsin Sustainable Business Council's annual conference was held on December 13 at the Monona Terrace in Madison, Wis.
The Green Masters program evaluates participating companies on their sustainability actions in nine areas. Companies submit information about steps they have taken to use less energy, cut waste and become more sustainable in their operations and supply chain. Based on that evaluation, applicants are placed in one of three categories. Only the top 20% achieve the Green Master designation. MGE was the first utility to be recognized as a Green Master in 2014.
In 2018, MGE introduced a Sustainability Steering Team. This team acts as a sounding board and helps direct new and ongoing activities supporting sustainability initiatives at MGE, such as benchmarking, Green Tier and Green Masters.
