MGE Breaks Ground on Two Creeks Solar

In late August, Madison Gas and Electric (MGE) Chairman, President and CEO Jeff Keebler joined Wisconsin Gov. Tony Evers, representatives from Wisconsin Public Service (WPS), NextEra Energy and local officials to celebrate the official groundbreaking of Two Creeks Solar in Manitowoc County. The 150-megawatt project (MW) is expected online by the end of next year.

MGE will own 50 MW of Two Creeks at a cost of approximately $64 million. The project will provide cost-effective renewable energy to power about 33,000 households, and it is another step toward MGE's goal of deep decarbonization.

"This clean energy project builds on the progress we've already made increasing our renewable generation and reducing carbon emissions," Keebler said. "Growing our use of renewable resources is a key strategy for achieving our goal of net-zero carbon electricity by the year 2050. We share the vision of a cleaner energy future and look forward to working with Governor Evers and others to reach these shared energy goals."

Two Creeks Solar will consist of about 500,000 solar panels spread out over about 800 acres. It is located in the town of Two Creeks and the city of Two Rivers near the Point Beach Nuclear Power Plant.
